Setting The Scene
Gateshead host Scarborough Athletic in their final game of pre-season on Saturday afternoon (3pm kick-off) as Mike Williamson’s men look to round things off with a win.
The Heed have won their last two pre-season games against Hebburn Town and Harrogate Town, after falling to defeat in the two openers against Middlesbrough and Consett.
Their first clean-sheet arrived in the win over Harrogate, with Paul Blackett’s 24th minute penalty proving enough to decide things on Tuesday evening.
Scarborough meanwhile, opened their pre-season schedule with emphatic back-to-back wins over Scarborough & District XI and Bridlington Town but have lost their last two against tough opposition in the form of York City and Grimsby Town.
The Northern Premier League Premier Division side still have a further five friendlies before the start of their season on August 17, including Saturday’s visit to the International Stadium.
Jordan Preston (knee) is the only absentee from the squad ahead of tomorrow’s game as the striker bids to return to fitness for the start of the season.
What We’re Saying
Player-manager Williamson spoke of the Heed’s squad situation ahead of the game, telling gateshead-fc.com: “Ideally we’d like to have our full-strength squad today, but unfortunately nothing ever goes idealistically so we’ll keep working towards that.
We’re getting into the bulk of our squad now but we’ll be working every day until the season starts to ensure we keep progressing.”

Last Time We Met
Saturday’s game will be the first meeting between the two sides under their current guises, although Gateshead AFC did meet Scarborough FC in the FA Cup in December 1948 as the Heed ran out 3-0 winners.
