Setting The Scene
Gateshead make the short trip to The Energy Check Sports Ground on Friday evening to face Northern League Division One side Hebburn Town in the third game of pre-season.
The Heed come into the game having fallen to defeat in both pre-season fixtures so far, losing 3-1 to Championship outfit Middlesbrough before a youthful side were defeated 4-1 by Consett last Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets meanwhile have faced a variety of different opposition during their pre-season campaign.
They opened with a 2-1 defeat to National League North side Blyth Spartans, but bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Hebburn Town Reserves before falling to a 3-1 defeat against Sunderland under-23’s.
Their most recent match provided their second win of pre-season as they beat Northern League Division Two outfit Birtley Town 2-1 on Tuesday evening.
The Energy Check Sports Ground is a familiar environment for some of the Heed’s playing and coaching staff, with the club granted permission by Hebburn to use the ground for training purposes towards the end of the 2018/19 season.
Mike Williamson has one injury to contend with heading into Friday’s game, with striker Jordan Preston (knee) still unavailable after picking up an injury against Middlesbrough.
What We’re Saying
Speaking after the defeat at Consett last Saturday, player-manager Mike Williamson told gateshead-fc.com: “We’ll certainly be going with our first team squad moving forward.
“It’s pre-season so there’s a lot of load inside our legs on the training field, but we need to get minutes on the pitch so it will be full-strength from now on.”
