Setting The Scene
Gateshead travel to Belle View Stadium to face Consett for the second friendly of pre-season on Saturday afternoon.
The Heed fell to a 3-1 defeat against Championship side Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening as goals from Jonny Howson, Ashley Fletcher and Marvin Johnson ensured Connor Thomson’s penalty wouldn’t be enough for Gateshead to take anything from the game.
The hosts meanwhile have had two pre-season friendlies so far against Birtley Town and CM Flooring Consett, winning 5-3 and 5-0 respectively.
The Northern League Division One outfit have seven pre-season friendlies scheduled for July before beginning their season against Northallerton Town on August 3.
A large contingent of trialists are expected to take part in Saturday’s game and the Heed are without Jordan Preston due to a knee injury, after the striker was taken off early on against Middlesbrough.
What We’re Saying
Speaking after the Middlesbrough defeat on Wednesday, player-manager Mike Williamson told gateshead-fc.com: “For those boys, coming on and getting a taste of that is only going to do them wonders.
“For myself, getting to see some of the players in this environment is good.
“They’re testing themselves at the highest level really and a lot of lads won’t have played against players of this quality before, so there’s loads of positives to take.”
Tickets can be purchased on the gate at Belle View Stadium and are priced as follows:
