Gate joined Gateshead in September 2007 after he was released from hometown club Newcastle United and played a major role in Gateshead's two promotion campaigns and subsequent two Conference campaigns.

A former Newcastle reserves captain and went on to make the substitutes bench in the Premier League having made senior appearances for the Magpies in friendlies against Glasgow Rangers and Malaga. A box-to-box player, Gate captained Gateshead for three years and has played over 200 games for the club.

Ruled out for the majority of his first season at Gateshead after suffering a double leg break in September 2009, wide man Brittain scored nine goals in 47 games last season. Signed from Kidderminster Harriers the right sided midfielder made one full appearance for Newcastle United and six off the bench before he spent a short period at Ipswich Town.

A loan spell at Yeovil Town saw Brittain make 15 appearances for the Glovers, followed by brief stays at Carlisle United and Walsall, before he moved into non-league football with Kidderminster, and subsequently Gateshead.

 

8. Phil Turnbull - Midfield

Turnbull, joined Gateshead for a second spell in February 2008 when he signed on loan from York City and the deal was made permanent in March that year. He had previously made five appearances on loan for Gateshead during the 2005/2006 season from Hartlepool United. After leaving Victoria Park the playmaker moved on to Conference Premier club York where injury hampered his progress.

A skilful central midfield player and a good passer of the ball, he has been a regular in the Gateshead engine room for the past three seasons.

 

11. Micky Cummins - Midfield

Former Republic of Ireland U.21 midfielder Cummins signed for Gateshead from Conference rivals Grimsby Town during the close season.

Cummins racked up 287 games for Port Vale during a six year stay in the Potteries having began his career at Middlesbrough. After leaving Port Vale, where he played in the 2001 LDV Vans final win over Brentford at the Millennium Stadium, he had two year spells at both Darlington and Rotherham United before he linked up with Grimsby and then Gateshead.

Wide man signed for Gateshead during the 2010 close season after making 25 appearances for Blyth Spartans in the Blue Square North during the 2009/10 campaign. A late season move to Northern League club Whitley Bay saw Gillies score the Seahorses sixth and final goal in the FA Vase final win over Wroxham at Wembley in May 2010.

Made four starts and 17 appearances off the bench last season, his first in top flight non-league football.

Another player who came through the ranks at Newcastle United, pacy winger Marwood, is the son of former Arsenal, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday winger Brian Marwood.

After his release from Newcastle Marwood junior had brief spells at Blyth Spartans and Northern League club Team Northumbria before he linked up with Gateshead in the summer of 2010 and played 26 games last season, 15 off the bench. Had a spell on loan at FC Halifax Town this season.

 

19. Chris Moore - Midfield

A pacy wide man who can operate on either flank, Moore joined Gateshead from Darlington during the close season having played 28 games for the Quakers.

The former Newcastle United trainee, holds the distinction of having played in winning FA Trophy and FA Vase sides at Wembley, Darlington and Whitley Bay. The winger spent four years at Whitley Bay after two seasons with Bishop Auckland and joined Darlington midway through the club's ill-feated 2009/10 League Two campaign.

 

21. Jamie Chandler - Midfield

Signed in the January transfer window from Darlington for a four figure fee. Chandler, who scored on his Gateshead debut against Braintree Town, was capped more than 30 times by England at various youth levels.

He joined Darlington at the start of the 2010/11 campaign after a spell on loan from Sunderland the previous season. The energetic schemer made 70 appearances for the Quakers and was named Man of the Match in the 2011 FA Trophy final win over Mansfield Town at Wembley.

 

22. Rob Briggs - Midfield

A promising central midfielder and the only Gateshead-born player in the squad. Captain of Gateshead reserves, and yet to make his first team debut, Briggs was a key player in the reserves Durham Challenge Cup triumph last season. Gained experience at Northern League club South Shields last season and on loan at Conference North outfit Blyth Spartans in 2011/12.
