Malcolm Crosby - Manager

First Team Manager.

Former Aldershot and York City midfielder famously guided Sunderland to the 1992 FA Cup Final while in charge at Roker Park, remaining with the Black Cats until January 1993. Crosby held the reins at Oxford United following Denis Smith’s departure in 1997, before spells as assistant boss at West Bromwich Albion, Derby County and Middlesbrough. He was placed in temporary charge of Northampton Town in March 2011, going on to assume the same role at Birmingham City before rejoining Lee Clark as Head of Recruitment at Blackpool.


Gary Owers - Assistant Manager

Assistant Manager.

Gary Owers joined the club as Assistant to Malcolm Crosby from Motherwell where he was Head of Recruitment. Owers, a midfielder under Malcolm Crosby at Sunderland also had long playing stints at Bristol City and Notts County. Later moving into management with Bath City, Forest Green Rovers and Weston-super-Mare. He then went on to become assistant manager at Aldershot Town and Plymouth Argyle before joining Motherwell.

Former Republic of Ireland U.21 midfielder Cummins signed for Gateshead from Conference rivals Grimsby Town in the summer of 2011. The 35-year-old racked up 287 games for Port Vale during a six year stay in the Potteries having began his career at Middlesbrough where he made two Premier League appearances. After leaving Port Vale, where he played in the 2001 LDV Vans final win over Brentford at the Millennium Stadium, Cummins had two year spells at both Darlington and Rotherham before he linked up with Grimsby and then Gateshead for whom he scored 12 goals in his first season and has made over 100 appearances.


Stephen Pears - Coach

Goalkeeper Coach.

Pears, made over 400 appearances for Middlesbrough between 1985 and 1995, having begun his career at Manchester United. A short spell at Liverpool followed his time at Ayresome Park, before a move to Hartlepool United in 1996. More recently, Pears worked alongside current Heed boss Malcolm Crosby during their time together on the backroom staff at Middlesbrough, before a return to Victoria Park in 2014 – where he was named as Pools’ assistant manager. Pears has joined Gateshead as part-time goalkeeping coach.
