Gateshead Disband Reserve Side

Gateshead FC will not be running a reserve side in 2013/14 and have resigned from the Central League.

As a consequence the club will no longer offer 3rd year apprenticeships to players released by Premiership and Football League clubs or to Gateshead College students.

Gateshead's last two pre-season friendlies have had to be put back to the previous day due to the unavailability of the International Stadium on Saturday 3rd August.

The World's Strongest Man competition is taking place at the stadium that day so The Heed will now flex their muscles against the Magpies the night before, kick-off 7:30pm.

Turnbull Tunes Up For New Season

Playmaker Phil Turnbull has been a stalwart at the International Stadium during the club's rise to the Conference Premier and is confident the coming season will be a good one.

The South Shields-born player was one of only two ever-presents in the Heed ranks in 2012/13 and will undergo his first pre-season under Anth Smith's management.

Pre-Season Programme Complete

Gateshead have completed their pre-season programme with the addition of three more fixtures, including an attractive opener against SPL newcomers Partick Thistle.

The Glasgow club won the Scottish 1st division by 11 points from runners-up Morton and lost only four of their 36 league games last season.

Gateshead FC Season Tickets for the 2013/14 Conference Premier campaign are available to purchase in person at the International Stadium tomorrow, Saturday, between 11am-1pm.

Registration forms have been available online and through postal applications since the beginning of the month and they can now be completed in person at the stadium cafe / bar area during a two hour window tomorrow.

Popular full-back Craig Baxter has returned to Gateshead after one season playing for Bedlington Terriers in the Ebac Northern League.

The 26-year-old was released by then Gateshead manager Ian Bogie at the end of the 2011/12 campaign after six years at the International Stadium.

The 23-year-old played 31 games last season, 19 of them off the bench, his only goal coming in the 1-1 draw against Lincoln City in August.
