The final day of the season saw The Tynesiders avoid relegation thanks to a Daryl Clare winner against AFC Wimbledon.

Gateshead maintained their Blue Square Premier League status by moving ahead of Forest Green Rovers who lost 1-0 at bottom placed Grays Athletic.

Gateshead lost a crucial match in their fight against relegation, as Kidderminster Harriers completed the double over the Tynesiders at The International Stadium.

Two second half goals from Chris McPhee were enough to win the match after Gateshead wasted some good opportunities in the first half.

A Daryl Clare double saw Gateshead record a crucial victory at The International Stadium over Cambridge United.

Clare opened the scoring in the 38th minute after Andy Ferrell picked him out following a cleared free-kick. The three points were made safe when Clare scored from the spot in the last 10 minutes, after former Cambridge winger Andy Parkinson won a penalty for handball.

Graeme Armstrong hit the only goal of the game as Gateshead beat Welsh opponents Wrexham 1-0 at The International Stadium.

Gateshead recorded consecutive home Blue Square Conference Premier League wins thanks to Armstrong's header in the 50th minute.

It took something special to prevent this attritional game from heading for only the second goalless draw of the season at the International Stadium - and it arrived in spectacular fashion 14 minutes from time.

Craig Baxter had few options when he picked up a ball 35 yards out on the right but unleashed a right foot thunderbolt that flew into the roof of the net beating Robins keeper Stuart Coburn at his near post.

Gateshead took all three points against Barrow at the International Stadium, the teams met a week after Barrow knocked Gateshead out the FA Trophy, this time the outcome was reversed.

Gateshead's goals came through Peter Winn and Phil Turnbull.

Gateshead were knocked out of the FA Trophy by Barrow at the International Stadium. After drawing 1-1 at Holker street a week earlier, unfortunately The Tynesiders lost the 3rd round replay.

The Poppies completed the double over the Tynesiders after winning 4-0 earlier in the season at Rockingham Road.

Gateshead's big game against former League Cup winners Luton Town went the way of the form book, though few in the largest crowd of the season at the International Stadium would accept the Hatters deserved the spoils.

A crowd of 1,218, almost half from Luton, saw Gateshead run the former top flight club all the way but paid the price for missed chances and a costly error from goalkeeper Paul Farman on the half hour.

Gateshead progressed to the third round of the FA Trophy with a 1-0 win at the Gateshead International Stadium.

Zamaretto Southern premier division visitors Chippenham Town gave as good as they got for an hour before a first move of quality saw Graeme Armstrong grab the all important winner.

Gateshead were held to a 1-1 draw by underdogs Harrogate Town in the first round of the FA Trophy after a disappointing performance at the International Stadium.

Steven Richardson scored an equaliser in the 84th minute to earn a replay. Gateshead won the replay 2-0.

Gateshead slipped to a 3-1 defeat at home to promotion chasing Mansfield Town. The Tynesiders were fortunate to take an interval lead, Michael Mackay striking in injury time.

Unfortuately The Tynesiders conceeded three second-half goals, two from set-plays and the third in stoppage time as they chased the game.

A Daryl Clare and Kris Gate double act saw Gateshead complete the double over Crawley Town - though the Tynesiders left it late.

The depleted Reds, looking for a rare away win, led from the half hour until Gateshead, galvanised by reverting to a more familiar 4-4-2 formation, scored twice in four minutes.

A Daryl Clare hat-trick saw Gateshead record a comfortable victory over Grays Athletic, as Gateshead kept a clean sheet following two five goal defeats in their last two games at Brentford and Stevenage.

Clare scored a beauty with his left foot after seven minutes, headed the second just before the hour and then deflected Craig Baxter's strike into the bottom corner late on.

Ian Bogie's heroes clinched promotion from the Blue Square North when a late Wayne Phillips goal finally saw off AFC Telford United in the play-off final at the International Stadium.

Gateshead ensured promotion to the Conference North with a 2-0 win over Buxton at the International Stadium on Saturday 3rd May 2008.
