Gateshead College is at the heart of developing sporting talent in the North East. The college's Academy for Sport, based at Gateshead International Stadium, provides students with one of the best training environments in the region, with nationally recognised coaches.
Our Academies
Students on any full time course can be a part of one of the College's eight sport academies, which means they get nine hours of coaching a week, compete weekly and benefit from individual nutrition and training programmes.
Success
The Men's Football Development Centre led by head coach Paul Bryson, has gone from strength to strength winning the Northern College's Premier League for seven consecutive years, the ECFA Champions Cup, the North East Colleges League Under 18 and North East Colleges Development League and Cup.
Not to be outdone by the men, the Women's Football Academy has won more than five trophies in the past six years and is the only women's academy in the North to be endorsed by the Football Association. The Academy is led by coach Mel Reay and England International and Everton midfielder Jill Scott.
Talent
Our Football Scholarship programme gives young male players that have once played for a professional club a second chance to develop their game, helping them to go onto a career in football or the wider leisure industry.
Targeted at 16 year-olds, students studying towards nationally recognised sport qualification such as the BTEC National Diploma in Performance and Excellence and Level 1 and 2 Football Coaching.
