Gateshead Sign Rodman
Gateshead manager Gary Mills has expressed his delight in bringing exciting wide player Alex Rodman to the International Stadium.
The Tynesiders just missed out on promotion back to the Football League last season and Mills has strengthened his squad with a raft of summer signings.
Rodman played for Mills at both York City and Tamworth and last season was impressive on the wing for Grimsby Town, who Gateshead beat in the Conference Premier play-offs.
The 27-year-old had been linked with a move across the border to join Hibernian but that fell through leaving him a free agent.
Grimsby were keen to keep Rodman, who has Football League experience at Aldershot Town, at Blundell Park but the former England C international elected to join up with Mills for a third time.
"It's been a long summer, for one reason or another, and I cant wait to get started at Gateshead," said Rodman.
"The deal fell through at Hibs and Grimsby wanted me back, while I had a few other good options in the Conference Premier.
"I had a lot of respect for the manager at Grimsby and it was a tough decision not to go back because I had such a good time there.
"The fans were fantastic and it's a great football club, but I'm really glad to have joined Gateshead, and after assessing all my options I felt this was the best one for me.
"I've played under Gary Mills before and he is a top man. I know how he works and likes to play his football and we have a great relationship.
"He plays football the right way and gets results. I have a lot of respect for him, he's a fantastic manager and I'm sure he'll get the best out of me this season."
Rodman had three years in the Football League at Aldershot as well as a loan spell at York, and played 41 games for Grimsby in 2013/14 scoring seven goals.
Mills has been tracking the midlander for some time and believes the wide player will make a big impression on Tyneside.
"Rodman is a quality player, and one I know all about having had him at Tamworth and then on loan at York," said Mills
"As soon as we finished last season I put a phone call in to try and get him. He had a big opportunity to go and play for Hibernian but that has fallen through.
"He wanted to come and play for me at Gateshead and I'm delighted. He's a player who can turn a game, an exciting player and someone I've always rated.
"He's improved year by year and will be a great asset. He's a positive player with two good feet who can play on the left or right as well as down the middle.
"The way we play will suit him. We've now got great options up front and the lack of that bit of quality in the final third just caught up with us last season.
"I wanted to address that, and I've more than done that with the amount of strikers I've brought in. They're not all going to be happy because some may not be involved one week - but it's great competition."
Rodman, Gateshead's 7th signing of the summer, has joined the club on a one-year contract.
