Gateshead Sign Boyes
Gateshead have taken their summer signings to three - all strikers - with the capture of highly rated Barrow front man Adam Boyes.
The 22-year-old scored an impressive 40 goals in 99 games during a two-year spell at Barrow including the Cumbrians winner at Gateshead on New Year's Day.
The two club's have agreed a compensation package with Yorkshireman Boyes joining Gateshead on a one-year deal.
"We made enquiries about the player in January and have monitored the situation since then," said Gateshead manager Anth Smith.
"Boyes was a prime target so I am delighted to get him on board alongside previous signings Richard Brodie and Colin Larkin.
"He scored a lot of goals in a relegated side and that speaks volumes and he played with Brodie at York so they know each others game.
"He is a big lad who handles the ball well. He can play in various attacking positions and is a good footballer who I am confident will do well at Gateshead."
Like previous signing Brodie Boyes is an England C international who first made his name at York City.
Brodie provided the assist for Boyes' first goal in the Conference for York, a 2-1 win over Forest Green Rovers in 2009.
He played in the FA Trophy final that year for the Minstermen at Wembley before he joined Scunthorpe United for a six-figure fee on a three-year contract.
During his time in Lincolnshire he had loan spells back at York and at Kidderminster Harriers and left Scunthorpe after two years to join Boston United.
His stock rose during a productive two years at Barrow where he scored 22 goals in his first season and 18 in 2012/13.
Gateshead chairman Graham Wood is delighted with the early work done in the transfer market and believes the Tynesiders will be a much more potent attacking force next season.
"Like Brodie, Boyes' signing is a statement of intent and we now have five quality strikers on the books so there will be plenty of goal threat," said Wood.
"We have always had goalscorers during my time at the club but our strikers scored only 21 goals between them last season.
"Good early summer business has been done with more to come as we put together a strong squad for the 2013/14 campaign."
. Gateshead will play a pre-season friendly at Conference North club Barrow, on Wednesday 10th July, kick-off 7:30pm at Holker Street.
