Gateshead Reserves 1-1 Middlesbrough Reserves

Liam HatchA 33rd minute equaliser from Liam Hatch saw Central League East Division leaders Middlesbrough drop their first points since the first game of the season.

Hatch headed home a Martin Brittain cross to cancel out Luke Williams free kick for the Championship the International Stadium.

Williams found the net off the inside of Tim Deasy's near post after the midfielder lifted a 10th minute free kick over the defensive wall.

Gateshead took time to get into their stride against a youthful Boro side that included five players with first team experience.

Hatch cut in from the left to shoot just over the bar in the 21st minute while Deasy had to parry an Andy Halliday shot at the other end.

Gateshead were growing into the game and they had a great chance to equalise two minutes later.

Gifted possession from a poor square ball Chris Moore played in Chris Carruthers inside the box but Connor Ripley came out on top in the one-to-one.

Josh Gillies knocked home the rebound but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Another poor pass out of defence 12 minutes later by Curtis Edwards, however, did not go unpunished.

The ball was switched to the right where Brittain's cross to the near post saw Hatch stoop to glance a header into the far corner.

Cameron Park shot straight at Deasy and then Moore had a chance to give The Heed an interval lead from Gillies' cross but put his header wide.

Moore set up Carruthers after the break but the former Bristol Rovers man scuffed his shot wide.

Indecision in the Boro defence presented Carruthers with another opportunity from Eddie Odhiambo's cross but the midfielder's header hit Ripley.

Deasy made an excellent point blank save from the unmarked Park as Boro looked the more likely side to grab a late winner.

Matt Dolan shot straight at Deasy from outside the box while Moore volleyed over from 25 yards and tested Ripley again in the dying stages as Gateshead rallied.

A share of the spoils was a fair reflection of the 90 minutes and avenged a 4-1 defeat against Boro at Rockliffe earlier in the season.
