Craig NelthorpeGateshead reserves were unable to book their place in the semi-finals of the totesport.com League Cup despite leading twice on Teesside.

Forced to give up home advantage after the International Stadium pitch had been ruined by groundsharers Gateshead Thunder Gateshead led 2-1 at the interval.

Boro, however, levelled midway through the second half and then pinched victory with virtually the last kick of the game in injury time.

Gateshead deserved a draw in another entertaining game as both sides created chances and played impressive football on a good surface.

The Tynesiders drew first blood on 16 minutes when Alan White, in his last game for the club found the bottom corner after Josh Gillies' corner was miscued by Bruno Pilatos.

The Championship club were level seven minutes later when Paul Farman was unable to prevent Andy Halliday's 25 yard strike find the bottom corner.

Good work from Craig Nelthorpe saw Gillies fire just over while Farman saved from Cameron Park at the foot of the post.

A great ball from Park saw Jonathon Franks fire wide before Nelthorpe's superbly excecuted free kick restored Gateshead's lead.

Andy Ferrell lost possession straight after the break and Halliday put Charlie Wyke through one-on-one only for Farman to come out on top.

Good work from Ashley Winn saw the midfield man pick out the unmarked Wake, but the striker's header lacked power.

Boro were level again after 71 minutes when White was caught out of position after conceding a foul and Wyke rolled the ball into Halliday who had the simplest of finishes.

The move of the game involving transfer-listed pair Ferrell and Wake, Ferrell's close range shot blocked by Connor Ripley, the keeper then making a fine reaction save from Jonny Allan's follow up.

Winn was then inches wide from the edge of the box but Gateshead were undone in injury time when Allan's ill advised long crossfield ball on half way was cut out.

Franks' stinging drive was tipped over by Farman but the youngster made no mistake from the resultant corner to fire into the bottom corner from 24 yards.

Another late goal had pulled the plug on Gateshead's reserve side, one that ended their interest in the totesport.com League Cup.
