Media Watch - Bogie impressed with Terry after friendly win

Gateshead gave a surprise run out to the elder brother of former England captain John Terry during last night's 2-1 pre-season friendly win at Harrogate Town.

Paul Terry, who has played over a century of games for both Yeovil Town and Dagenham & Redbridge, came on for the second half at a rainlashed CNG Stadium.

Terry, whom also played 81 games for Leyton Orient, is looking for a new club after leaving Rushden & Diamonds under a cloud last season.

Gateshead manager Ian Bogie, in the market for a midfield enforcer, as well as three other signings said:

"Terry was comfortable in the middle of the park. He is a good organiser and talker and he will train with the squad next week.

"He hasn't had the benefit of training in a team environment and has been working out by himself so it will do him good to get a full week in.

"He will feature in the pre-season friendlies against Sunderland and Newcastle United XIs next week and we'll then take it from there."

Gateshead trailed to an early Martin Foster goal last night but scored early and late in the second half to claim a second consecutive friendly win on the road.

Summer signing Nathan Fisher took a Kris Gate through ball to finish clinically while Bermuda international Tyrell Burgess grabbed the winner late on.

Martin Brittain's whipped in corner saw Steven Baptist's header blocked only for the alert Burgess to force the ball home.

"It was a much better second half display," said Bogie "we weren't at the races in the opening 45 minutes when our decision making wasn't great.

"But it was a good work out in difficult conditions and another plus was that captain Kris Gate got through his first full 90 minutes of the pre-season build up."

Gateshead, without a pre-season friendly on Saturday, will instead hold a free entry Open Day at the International Stadium which will involve a full scale practice game starting at 1:30pm.
