Gateshead warmed up for Saturday's trip to Mansfield Town with a 3-0 behind closed doors friendly win over Northern League side Consett last night.

The game, on the 3G pitch behind the International Stadium - Gateshead's training base - saw new signing Andy Ferrell mark his first appearance for the Tynesiders with a fine goal.

Another former Newcastle United product, Neale McDermott, scored from the penalty spot with new signing James Sinclair scoring his first goal for the club.

Jim Provett played the whole game in goal but manager Ian Bogie made changes at half-time and during the second half to the following side that started the game.

Provett, Bains, Heckingbottom, Curtis, Buchanan, Turnbull, Ferrell, Francis, Winn, Clare, Wake.

Left back Paul Heckingbottom made his first appearance since signing on loan from Mansfield Town and returning loan signing Peter Winn played on the left.

Former Northern Ireland under 23 central defender Wayne Buchanan played 70 minutes and has agreed terms on an initial contract until the end of the season.

The former Bolton Wanderers and Lisburn Distillery player will gain further match practice in a friendly against a Hartlepool United X1 at Billingham Town next Thursday.

Ferrell curled a left foot shot into the top corner for his goal while a foul on Brian Wake saw McDermott score from the penalty spot.

Sinclair headed home a Mark Robinson cross from 12 yards to complete a useful work out.
