FA Trophy Quarter-Final Draw
01/02/2010, by Jeff Bowron
Gateshead have been given the incentive of a plum home tie against York City in the quarter-final of the FA Trophy if they can overcome Barrow in tomorrow's rearranged third round tie.
York, Gateshead's nearest neighbours in the Blue Square Premier, reached the final of the FA Trophy last season only to be beaten by Stevenage Borough at Wembley.
The Minstermen, who include the league's leading scorer - Gateshead-born Richard Brodie, are currently third in the table and pushing for a return to the Football League.
The two league games with York this season were both close fought affairs with Martin Foyle's side coming from behind to win 2-1 on Tyneside and then winning 1-0 at Kit-Kat Crescent.
"It is a good draw for both ourselves and Barrow," said Gateshead manager Ian Bogie "but we can't begin to think about York as we face a tough tie against the Bluebirds.
"If we do get through then we can expect a bumper crowd with so much at stake as York brought a large following to the International Stadium for the league game."
The York contingent in a 1,174 crowd back in August was 492 and they are likely to have a larger following for a Saturday game and a last eight tie.
Hamstring victims Wayne Phillips and Steven Richardson meanwhile will both be fit for tomorrow's game in Cumbria with captain Kris Gate fully recovered from an ankle injury.
. FA Trophy fourth round ties will take place on Saturday February 20th, the date that Gateshead host fellow strugglers Ebbsfleet United.
