Bogie delight at Clare capture
Gateshead manager Ian Bogie has made his first signing of the January transfer window with the capture of former Ireland B and under 21 international Daryl Clare.
The 31 year made a big impression during his three month loan at Gateshead and has now joined the club on a free transfer from Mansfield Town.
Lincolnshire-based Clare scored nine goals in 13 games for Gateshead and has put pen to paper on a one and a half year deal.
"Daryl Clare showed his credentials during his loan spell at the club and I am delighted, as I'm sure the fans will be, that he has signed for Gateshead on a permanent basis," said Bogie.
"He may not be as pacy as he was but he is a fantastic player and an intelligent footballer whose goals have been priceless to us.
"The fact that we have been able to secure a player of Daryl's pedigree in the game shows how far this club has come.
"He is an experienced pro. who is great around the dressing room and he has enjoyed his time at Gateshead and the style of football we play.
"His goalscoring ratio so far has been tremendous and if he can maintain that high standard it will go a long way to securing our Blue Square Premier status."
While Mansfield have allowed their high profile summer signing to move for a free part of the deal involves a sell on clause should there be one.
Clare will also be unable to face his former club with Gateshead due to play Mansfield at Field Mill on 6th February.
The Jersey-born hitman has twice won the Conference Golden Boot and is approaching 200 Conference goals in a career that began at Grimsby Town for whom he made almost a century of appearances.
He has twice been in Conference title winning sides, at Boston United and Chester City, and played for Rushden & Diamonds last season.
Gateshead will now step up their bid to bring in four more players during the transfer window as they look to strengthen in all areas.
