Ian BogieGateshead have signed experienced Mansfield Town striker Daryl Clare on an emergency loan and the 31 year old goes straight into the squad for Saturday's home game with Chester City.

The former Republic of Ireland B international has twice won the Conference Premier Golden Boot and has been a prolific goalscorer throughout his career.

After 79 appearances for Grimsby Town, where he was part of the Mariners promotion squad in 1997/98, he had a productive season at Boston United where he scored 25 goals in 47 games.

His strike rate was even better during two seasons at Chester City where he plundered a remarkable 48 goals in 62 appearances.

Clare returned to Boston United for the 2004/5 campaign before he became Crawley Town's record signing and scored a goal every other game.

Two years at Burton Albion followed, Clare hitting an impressive 37 goals in 88 games for the Brewers before he moved on to Rushden & Diamonds and then Mansfield.

The 5' 9" front man has been limited to four starts and five substitute appearances since joining the Stags during the close season.

"Clare is a proven striker at Conference level and his goalscoring exploits are second to none," said Gateshead manager Ian Bogie.

"He has two Conference winners medals, with Boston United and Chester City, and has been the league's leading scorer twice.

"We needed to add some firepower to the attack and hopefully Clare will provide this, and that the loan deal is beneficial to both parties."

Emergency loans are initially for one month and have a maximum tariff of 92 days.

Mansfield have allowed Clare to play for Gateshead in the FA Cup against Southport next week and Bogie hopes to have another new face on board for Saturday's game against Chester.

An unnamed 21 year old wide man or striker currently at a Championship club has agreed to join Gateshead on another emergency loan.
