Ascherl joins Bedlington Terriers

Gateshead's German-born midfielder Christoph Ascherl has signed for Northern League club Bedlington Terriers on a free transfer.

The 23 year old joined Gateshead in the summer having already played football in three different countries, but has found opportunities limited at the International Stadium.

His debut came in the ill fated abandoned game against Hayes & Yeading United in September when he was handed an unfamiliar central defensive role.

Ascherl was sent off in the second half for a professional foul and his only other appearance was in the following game at Chester City where Gateshead also finished with ten men.

"Ascherl goes to Bedlington with our best wishes for the future," said manager Ian Bogie "he was a credit to himself during his brief time at Gateshead."

"His attitude was excellent and there was no shortage of endeavour. Unfortunately he just came up short at Conference level but I am sure he will do a fine job at Bedlington."

Ascherl joins eight former Gateshead players at Welfare Park including Steve Bowey, David Southern and Gareth McAlindon.
