Durham City 0 - 4 Gateshead

Gateshead made it three wins and a draw from their four pre-season games after they scored four goals for the second consecutive game.

After a goalless first half on the Arnott Stadium plastic pitch the Tynesiders scored four times after the break to beat hosts Durham City 4-0.

Both clubs have enjoyed back-to-back promotions but UniBond premier division newcomers Durham were put to the sword after the break.

"It was a very good performance and we had too much for Durham when we stepped on the gas in the second half," said manager Ian Bogie.

"Forsyth was very impressive and a touch of class, and another trialist, Neale McDermott, gave us something different while Simon Ainge was again solid at the back.

"We have made offers to both Forsyth, who flies back to Dublin tomorrow, and McDermott and I'm optimistic they will both come on board.

"Ainge lives in Leeds and doesn't drive, which is obviously not ideal, so I'll have a chat about the situation with him."

Gateshead started with Paul Farman in goal and two trialists at centre back - former Bradford City player Ainge and ex Sunderland trainee Niall McArdle.

McDermott, son of former Magpie Terry McDermott, lined up in midfield having recently returned from a trial at League Two club Chesterfield.

Irish striker Forsyth once again found the back of the net but another striker possibility, Tomi Ameobi, returned to Hereford United and scored a late header for the Bulls in their friendly defeat at Kidderminster Harriers.

Wide man Martin Brittain was unavailable due to illness and central defender Chris Swailes was again sidelined though the 38 year old is close to fitness.

After a tight first half the impressive Forsyth broke the deadlock on 54 minutes after he had been set up by winger Wayne Phillips.

Alex Francis then made it two in the 76th minute when he drilled a 25 yard shot into the bottom corner, and then Steven Richardson marked his return to Durham with a goal.

Richardson finished off a measured through ball from Forsyth and then the in form Francis curled a shot into the top corner to complete a good night's work.
