Gateshead sign left back Dan Smith

Gateshead have signed former Sunderland and Aberdeen left back Dan Smith and the 22 year old will be in the squad to face Harrogate Town in the FA Trophy this weekend.

Smith made a handful of appearances for Sunderland, including an infamous League cup tie against Arsenal, and while at the Stadium of Light played eight games on loan at Huddersfield Town.

A move north of the border took the Wearsider to Scottish Premier League club Aberdeen where he made ten appearances in two seasons at Pittodrie.

Subsequent trials at St.Johnstone and Darlington came to nothing and the full back signed for Gateshead before Wednesday's game against Kings Lynn.

"I'm delighted to have Dan on board," said manager Ian Bogie "he has played briefly at the highest level in England and Scotland and should be a good acquisition."

"He has looked good in training and will be in contention for a place in the 16 on Saturday for the FA Trophy game against Harrogate Town at the International Stadium."
