Gateshead 3 - 0 Prescot Cables

12/04/2008
GATESHEAD completed the double over Prescot Cables and with three games to play are virtually assured of finishing third which will give them home advantage in the semi-final of the UniBond League Premier Division play-offs.

Buxton, beaten at second-top Fleetwood Town, are fourth and although they could equal the Tynesiders' points tally, it looks extremely unlikely.

Ian Bogie's side though will not be bothered too much by any opponents as they challenge for a place in Blue Square North. The Tynesiders have won seven and drawn one of their last eight games and were never troubled by Prescot Cables after scoring twice in the first 12 minutes.

David Southern gave them a dream start scoring after just eight minutes and skipper Steven Bowey quickly made it two. Gateshead could easily have added to their advantage before Kris Gate secured the points midway through the second period.

GATESHEAD: Musselwhite, Baxter, Cave (Talbot), Bowey, Curtis (Jones), Salvin, Southern, Gate, Armstrong (Brayson), Harwood, Phillips.
