Gateshead 0 Worksop Town 1
Gateshead crashed to a second league defeat of the season after a 1-0 defeat against strugglers Worksop Town at the International Stadium.
In a scrappy affair the home side had the first effort of note after four minutes when a Graeme Armstrong pass found captain Kris Gate whose cross found Wayne Phillips in space and the left winger saw his effort cannon back off the cross bar.
For all Gateshead's posession the home side were showing no real purpose in the final third and it was Worksop's turn to hit the post after 18 minutes when a cross saw Phil Cave only half head clear with the ball falling to Jermaine Palmer who saw his shot rebound off the woodwork.
On 41 minutes a James Curtis challenge resulted in a minor altercation with Curtis seeing yellow for the initial challenge.
Minutes before half time and the visitors were ahead when a clever ball from Steve Robinson found the impressive Palmer and the former Alfreton Town player brought the ball inside from the edge of the box and placed the ball past debutant Paul Musselwhite to give his side a 1-0 half time lead.
Half time 0-1
The second half saw the Unibon Premier division challenges frustrated thanks to some good Worksop defending and only a 51st minute Curtis header caused the visitor's 'keeper any real problems early on.
With Worksop gaining in confidence, Kevin Sanasy found himself one on one with Musselwhite following a counter-attack only for the striker to be thwarted by the advancing stopper.
In a game influenced by questionable refereeing decisions, Gate collected his second yellow card with seven minutes remaining, having ajudged to deliberately handle the ball in the centre of the park and the Gateshead physio was sent to the stands soon after for decent.
With minutes remaining Gateshead had a chance to grab a share of the spoils when a header was cleared off the line and out for a corner however in the end the home side arguably did not do enough to take anything from the game.
