6 in 7 for SouthernGateshead overcame a stubborn first half performance by Selby Town to comfortably advance to the second qualifying round of the FA Cup by six goals to one.

After a tricky opening half hour David Southern finally broke the deadlock with a goal on 33 minutes. Graeme Armstrong then added a second with his fourth of the season on 43 minutes. Just before half time Selby hit back through Brenton Leister.

The second half saw a marked improvement for the homes side and four more goals were added to take The Tyensiders comfortably through to the next round.

Craig Baxter, making his final appearance before serving a three match suspension, scored his first for the season on 57 minutes. Captain Steve Bowey then made it 4-1 on 59 minutes for his first goal since returning in the summer.

Baxter and Armstrong were substituted on 64 minutes for Ian Robson and debutant Kris Gate who slotted in at right back.

Southern then scored his sixth goal in seven matches this season with his second of the match on 67 minutes, putting the game out of Selby Towns reach. Robson then made it 6-1 on 79 minutes to score his second goal in five days, both from the substitutes bench.
