A goal from experienced striker Adam Boyd five minutes into the second half condemned a spirited Gateshead reserves side to a narrow 1-0 Central League defeat against Hartlepool United at the International Stadium.

Gateshead U.19s keeper Peter Jameson stepped in for his debut and made a string of good saves to ensure the first half ended goalless.

Gateshead crashed to a shock defeat in Northamptonshire as crisis club Kettering Town won their first Conference game since October.

The lowly Poppies scored twice in the second half and Jon Shaw's late header proved to be too little too late for a misfiring Gateshead.

Luton Town's five match winning run in the Blue Square Bet Premier came to an end in their extraordinary 3-3 draw at Southport on Saturday.

The Hatters hauled themselves into a 3-2 lead just after half-time having been two goals behind, but a free-kick that bounced back off keeper Kevin Pilkington's legs handed the home side a point.

Gateshead add Newcastle United loanee Phil Airey to their squad for the visit of lowly Lincoln City to the International Stadium on Saturday.

With leading scorer Jon Shaw expected to be fit the 20-year-old, whose loan spell at Hibs ended prematurely due to injury, is likely to be on the bench.
